The day

Ross and Suzi had their entire wedding at Liopetro — preparations, ceremony, dinner and the party, all inside the same set of stone walls in Kouklia. No convoy, no hotel to leave, nobody checking a watch because of a drive. It is a rare way to get married in Cyprus and it changes the film completely.

The obvious gain is time. A wedding that moves between two houses, a church and a venue can lose two hours of the day to cars, and those hours come out of the parts worth filming. Here nothing was lost. Suzi got ready in the wedding suite on site, close enough to hear the venue coming to life below, and we could film the room filling up and the gardens being set at the same time.

The less obvious gain is that everyone relaxes. Guests who arrive once and stay put behave differently on camera — they settle, they stop checking their phones for the next instruction, and by early evening you are filming people who have entirely forgotten there is a camera.

Liopetro is built from local stone and wood, restored out of two sixteenth-century farm buildings, and it sits on archaeological ground in Kouklia — the ancient capital of Cyprus, and the place where Aphrodite was worshipped for something like a thousand years. You do not have to make anything of that. But it is quite a place to get married, and the walls do a lot of work in the frame without any help from us.

Dinner ran in the gardens under the string lights, and the party went from there.

The day, in scenes

Full-day coverage

  1. The wedding suite

Suzi getting ready on site, with the venue being set up just below the window.

  2. The gardens

Stone, herb borders and tables going out. Filmed while it was still quiet.

  3. Guests arriving

Once. Nobody left again until midnight.

  4. The ceremony

Mics on the celebrant and groom, cameras fixed, nothing moving once it started.

  5. Drinks in the courtyards

The part of the day where everyone finally exhales.

  6. Portraits

Fifteen minutes out into the gardens with the sea behind them.

  7. Dinner and speeches

Long tables under the lights, three angles, cut for the reactions.

  8. First dance and the party

Drone up once over the lit stone, then back down among it.

Filming at Liopetro

Liopetro is in Kouklia, fifteen minutes from Paphos town and about the same from the airport, which makes it one of the easier venues in the district for guests flying in. It was built out of two sixteenth-century farm buildings, restored in local stone and timber using traditional techniques, and it is family-owned and gated — one wedding a day, nobody else on site, no second event happening behind a hedge.

For filming, stone is the thing. Warm limestone walls bounce light back onto faces in a way that renders skin beautifully and means we rarely add light at all during the day. The same walls hold their colour after the sun has gone, so the hour after the ceremony at Liopetro is longer and kinder than it is at a coastal venue where the light simply leaves. Plan your portraits for that window and you will get the best footage of the day.

The venue is also unusual in giving you distinct spaces for each part of the day — Zeus Square, the Aphrodite Circle, the Secret Garden, the Stone Building — so the celebration moves through the property rather than sitting in one room. That variety is a gift to a film: each section of the edit looks like a different place without anybody getting into a car. Worth walking the site with your videographer beforehand and deciding which space suits which part of the day, because the choice will shape what the film looks like more than any other decision you make there.
