Did you know that Cyprus had around 8000 destination weddings in 2024 and it will be even more in 2025? This is of course no coincidence, Cyprus is sunny, it hardly ever rains and its filled with scenic beaches and ancient churches that make a fantastic backdrop to your big day. So it comes as no surprise, that more and more couples want to have their big day in Cyprus, its only a 3-4 hrs flight from the UK and central Europe and just an hour or two from Lebanon and Israel making it a perfect Wedding Destination.

And while the government tries to make getting married in Cyprus easy and cost effective, there are certain costs involved that are not always so transparent.

The Essential cost of a Wedding in Cyprus

The basic requirements to get married (excluding the actual cost of the event and services) are fairly easy:

  • Marriage license (standard & express)
    • The marriage license is a basic cost of 128 Euros, there is an express option if you are in a rush to get the license, for this expect to pay 282 Euros
  • Required documents + apostilles
    • I will outline this more in the hidden costs as you will have to prepare some documents back home
  • Town Hall ceremony vs external venue
    • The town hall offers a ceremony within the town hall which is usually the cheaper option, you can however have the Marriage Officer travel to your wedding destination as long as it is approved for weddings. In such cases travel fees might apply
Service/Fee Cost Note
Civil Marriage License (Standard) €128 Ceremony 15 days to 3 months after notice
Civil Marriage License (Urgent/Special License) €282 Ceremony can take place within 2–3 working days
Civil Ceremony at Town Hall Often included Some charge a small venue fee (€50–€100)
Registrar Travel Fee (for off-site ceremony) €150–€400 Applies if ceremony is at hotel, villa, beach
Marriage Certificate (First Copy) €14–€20 Issued on the day or shortly after, on the day you can get original copies, if you need more copies afterwards, you will only be able to get certified copies.
Affidavit / Statutory Declaration €80–€120 per person Done with solicitor in the UK before travel
Apostille for Legal Documents €30 per document + postage Required for legal recognition (esp. after Brexit)
Certified Translations (if needed) €20–€60 per document May be needed for birth/divorce certificates
Witnesses (if not provided) €50–€100 Some Town Halls charge for supplying witnesses
Certificate Courier/Postage (optional) €15–€50 For mailing the certificate to home country

So realistically, you should expect to pay between 500 and 1200 Euros for the essentials and licenses.
